All About Romance:

McNally Robinson:

I have events at the TPL’s Northern District Branch...

The Rose Garden is nominated for an RT Reviewer’s Choice Award.
I’m thrilled beyond measure to announce that the reviewers at RT Book Reviews have nominated The Rose Garden this year for Best Historical Fantasy/Paranormal novel. It’s truly an honour, and I’m happy to once again be able to go to the convention and enjoy the awards ceremony in person. You can read the full listing of all the nominees here.
Season of Storms is now an ebook in the UK...
My publishers, Allison & Busby, have been hard at work digitising my backlist, and
I’m happy to announce that as of September 1st, Season of Storms joins the ebooks
of Sophia’s Secret (The Winter Sea), Mariana and The Rose Garden, with more to follow
soon.
Here are the links to purchase Season of Storms from amazon.co.uk, and Waterstones.
The Winter Sea makes the New York Times & USA Today Bestseller Lists!
Just over eighteen years ago, I got my first phone call from an actual editor, telling
me she’d like to buy my novel. And this month, I got another phone call from an editor,
telling me something equally wonderful: The Winter Sea had hit the USA Today Bestseller
list! The next day, she called again to tell me it had also hit the New York Times
Bestseller list! It did this two weeks in a row, rising as high as #5 in the NYT
ebook list and #11 in the combined print & ebook list. For this to happen to any
of my books would be amazing, but for it to happen to the book of my heart, six months
after it was published in the United States, and a full two years after it was first
published in the UK, is simply magical. My thanks go out to all the hardworking people
at Sourcebooks who got behind my book so solidly, and to all the readers out there
who decided to give my book a chance. I hope it didn’t disappoint.
May 2011 News Roundup: The Winter Sea wins one award, gets nominated for another, and I hold a Giveaway...
At the RT Booklovers Convention held in Los Angeles at the beginning of April, I
was incredibly honoured to accept the Reviewers’ Choice Award for Best Historical
Fiction for The Winter Sea.
This is the first actual trophy I’ve ever won for writing
(unless you count the one I won for third place in the annual Legion speech contest,
back in grade school), and I’m so proud of it I can’t even describe the feeling.
And now this past week I’ve just learned that The Winter Sea is also a finalist for this year’s National Readers’ Choice Award for Best Mainstream Novel with Romantic Elements. Again, I’m up against some great books and writers, but it truly means so much to have a book I love so deeply get a nod like this, especially from readers.
So to give a little back, and since I’ve just received my author’s copies of The
Rose Garden, I thought it was high time I had a Giveaway.
I have four copies of the new book up for grabs, so if you want to enter for a chance to win one, just click here and leave a comment. Best of luck!
A first look at the German cover of The Rose Garden (Feb/11)
This was just sent to me this week by my German editor at Pendo, and I think it’s gorgeous. The book will be coming out there in the autumn. (The title translates to: “Light over the cliffs”).
The Winter Sea receives RT Book Reviews’ Seal of Excellence... (Dec/10)
One of the nicest Christmas presents I received this year was learning that The Winter Sea has been awarded December’s Seal of Excellence by RT Book Reviews online. You can read all about it by clicking the image.
The Winter Sea nominated for a Reviewer’s Choice Award.. (Dec/10)
RT Book Reviews Reviewer’s Choice Award winners and nominees are selected by the RT staff of over 50 reviewers representing the readers' voice in the women's fiction industry.
The winners will be announced at the RT Booklovers Convention in Los Angeles on April 7, 2011. I’ve got some pretty stiff competition in the Historical Fiction category, as you can see here, but I’m so honoured to be nominated, and I’ve already got my ticket to Los Angeles!
The birth of a group blog... (August/10)
In the wake of this year’s RNA conference at Greenwich, fellow writers and friends
Julie Cohen, Anna Louise Lucia, Brigid Coady, Christina Courtenay, and Liz Fenwick
have joined me in starting a new group blog, The Heroine Addicts, in which we discuss
many writerly things.. We post on Thursdays and Sundays, so do drop in and visit.
The Shadowy Horses makes the Bestseller List (July/10)
...And only thirteen years after it was first published, too! Thanks to the tireless
efforts of my amazing Canadian distributers, Georgetown Publications, and their incomparable
marketing director Brian Skerrett, not to mention all the booksellers and fans who
got behind the book, the recent re-issue of The Shadowy Horses spent four incredible
weeks in the top ten titles on the Globe and Mail’s Canadian Fiction bestseller list.
A great way to start off the summer!
Giveaway Part II - The Winners! (June/10)
My heartfelt thanks to everyone who entered. I never knew I had so many fans in Australia!
I’ll have to start saving my pennies to travel there...
Again, while I’d love to be able to give you all free copies of The Shadowy Horses, I sadly only have two copies going spare, so the following two people, chosen at random, will each be getting one:
Susie Moreton, from Australia
Hilda Schnell, from Canada
Season of Storms Giveaway – The Winners! (Mar/10)
This being my first ever contest, I had no idea what to expect. There were so many
entrants that, in the end, I decided there ought to be more than one winner. The
following four people, selected at random, have each won a copy of the new UK re-issue
of Season of Storms:
Teresa Händel, from Iceland
Marijana Bacic, from Australia
Eric Wilson, from the USA
Barbara Regis, from Italy
To everyone who entered, thank you so much for your emails and for all the kind and encouraging things you said about my books. I’m sorry I couldn’t make all of you winners, but given the success of this first contest I’m sure I’ll be running another one when the next book comes out, so perhaps next time...?
Mariana released in audio (Jan/10)
Again from Oakhill Publishing, and with the same wonderful narrator – Carolyn Bonnyman
– who did such a great job with Sophia’s Secret, comes the unabridged audio book
of Mariana. You can click here for details.
Well, an honorary one, at least! This coveted status, I’m told, entitles me to add the initials “H.W.W.” after my name, which will I think lend a Certain Something to my signature from here on in. My thanks to the gracious and talented Nicola Cornick, who interviewed me for a guest spot on the Word Wenches blog, and to all the other wenches for being so welcoming. You can read my interview with Nicola here.
Sophia’s Secret audio book from Oakhill Publishing (Oct/09)
Oakhill, who also recorded my thriller Every Secret Thing, have just released their audio book version of Sophia’s Secret (aka The Winter Sea), and I’m completely in love with the voice of the narrator, Carolyn Bonnyman. I could listen to her read me the phone book, I think, and it’s marvellous hearing her switch between Carrie’s Canadian accent and Jimmy Keith speaking the Doric. Here are the links for Oakhill’s versions of Sophia’s Secret and Every Secret Thing.
Mariana is now available as an ebook (Sept/09)
My UK publishers, Allison & Busby, have released their first ever ebooks, and they’ve selected Mariana as one of this first group, so if you live in the UK, Canada, or any of the Commonwealth countries, you can now buy and download Mariana at your leisure. Here’s the entire announcement from Allison & Busby’s blog.
